MOGI DAS CRUZES (DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana 2016) – Good things are expected from Mogi das Cruzes in this 2016 edition on the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana. The team has recent antecedents that made them a heavy contender for the title. And the Brazilian team is confirming how that prediction could become a reality.

The team’s passage through the first two stages of the competition was overwhelming as the team qualified to the Final of the tournament without a defeat. Now the team has the added advantage of starting the decisive stage of the Liga Sudamericana at home.

Coach Jorge Guerrinha explained how Mogi arrives to the start of the Final, and how the team adapted to game ideas.

FIBA - What does it mean for Mogi to once again reach a decisive instance of an international competition?
Guerrinha - For us it is very valuable and rewarding to arrive at a decisive instance of an international event. And above all, we arrive at a great level. The city is very proud of what the team is doing and the fans prove it by accompanying the team.

FIBA - How is the team preparing for the Final of the Liga Sudamericana against Bahia Basket? How do you analyze your rival?
Guerrinha - We were are doing a scouting reports on Bahia Basket. The whole team watched some of their games in the Argentine League, we studied their players and their movements. Like they are surely doing to us. Bahía Basket is a team that plays with intensity, very physical and balanced, because it has good shooters and a great internal game. They have many young players and they play with a lot of heart. They also arrive at the Final with a good level.

FIBA – Experience and home-court advantage could be important in this Final?

Guerrinha - The biggest advantage we have is starting the series and playing a possible 5th game at home. It is true that experience can be gravitating at a decisive moment like this, but so are the intensity in which the game is played. The two teams showed these virtues. In that we are even.

FIBA - What changed from last season's squad? There is new coach and new players, how did they adapt?
Guerrinha - The squad kept 10 players from last season. The important players continue in the team, except the departure from Paulo Prestes and Lucas Mariano and the arrival of Caio Torres. We also added Argentine power-forward Fernando Calvi. But the structure is the same. I am also new and tried to contribute my idea of the game to the team, to play more in transition, with more shots, to play with more concepts. What I value most is that the team accepted my defensive idea. In general I am satisfied with the level of Mogi and feel that we arrived well to this Final. We are fighting for our first international title.
