Mogi won the Grand Finale opener over a resilient Weber Bahia
MOGI DAS CRUZES (DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana 2016) - Mogi won the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana 2016 Grand Finale opener by the score of 77-72 in a competitive matchup. The first team to win three games will lift the Horacio Muratore Cup.
Turning Point: With 5 minutes to go in the game, Larry Taylor took over and scored eight points in a row to give Mogi a 75-68 lead with 1:59 on the clock. Bahia was able to score only two point in the last two minutes.
Stats Don’t Lie: Bahia had a rough night from the free-throw line, shooting 50% and missing 8 attempts down the stretch. Mogi won the rebounding battle 42-32.
Game Hero: Shamell Stallworth once again came up big in the big moments scoring 24 points, including 5 three-pointers in the win. His teammate Larry Taylor was also huge in the victory with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
The Bottom Line: Bahia brought it and put up a big fight against the favorite Mogi in the first game of the Grand Finale. Behind very good performances from Anthony Johnson and Lucio Redivo with 18 points each, the Argentinean club was able to compete, but the experienced tandem of Taylor and Stallworth took over in the fourth and closed effectively to pick up the win for Mogi.
