Re John Lennon Says The Beatles Are “Bigger Than Jesus” (Letters, July 16), I’m reminded of the row over the Rutles’ Ron Nasty and his interview with a slightly deaf journalist who misquoted him as saying, “We’re bigger than God.” He actually said “bigger than Rod [Stewart]”. This led to outrage and a spike in Pre-Fab Four record sales. “People bought them just to burn them,” revealed the Rutles’ film All You Need Is Cash.

I notice the days getting longer by milliseconds (Climate crisis makes days longer, study finds, 15 July). Is the Treasury looking at how this increase in productive time can be used to promote the government’s policy of economic growth? Perhaps there might be a statement in the next budget on this issue.

Royal Mail may want to take further steps to reduce its carbon footprint (Letters, July 14) by recycling the rubber bands it uses to bundle letters together rather than dropping them in the street.
