The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2024 was awarded to two scientists for their work on microRNA.

Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun were awarded the prize for the discovery of microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation.

Announced by the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet, in Stockholm, Sweden, the winners will share a prize of 11 million Swedish kroner (about £810,000).

This year’s award is the 115th Nobel Prize awarded in physiology or medicine since 1901. Of the 229 winners, only 13 were women.

The 2024 Nobel Prize in physics will be announced on Tuesday, followed by the chemistry prize on Wednesday.
