The “world premiere” of a new biopic of Russian President Vladimir Putin with an AI-rendered central character has been announced for September 26. In a statement released via PR LeapPolish studio AIO said the film, titled Putin, would be released in 35 countries, describing itself as getting “up close and personal with the Kremlin leader’s story”.

First announced in May 2022Putin is the English-language debut from Polish director Besaleel, also known as Patryk Vega, who has been responsible for a string of homegrown blockbusters characterized by gruesome violence and glossy production values, including Pitbull, Mafia Women and Botox.

In the statement, the director said he created his own AI technology to create the film version of Putin. “Inviting Putin to the studio for 20,000 shots was not an option and the archive material available online did not allow training a high-resolution depth-false model suitable for cinematic use. As a result, after almost two years of development, we created our ground-breaking AI-driven technology, which allows us to create the film character without relying on a real human model.”

Originally titled The Vor in Law (a term used for elite organized crime figures), the film also contains footage shot by Ukrainian filmmakers during the Russian invasion. The film’s trailer includes shots of Putin wearing a dirty diaper, engaging in martial arts and confronting Boris Yeltsin.

Besaleel added: “Putin is not just a film. It is a response to a worldwide quest to understand the motives and actions of one of the most controversial figures in contemporary politics. My production’s mission is to provide viewers with an ‘user’s manual’ for Putin, with the aim of alleviating the fear and uncertainty that dominates today’s world.”
